Au-Pair in the United States

This is truly an once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Our Au pair program in the United States offers the opportunity for candidates to have fun practicing their English language skills and learning about the American culture, while taking care of children and doing some light housework. Au pairs in this program usually work around 45 hours and get 1 ½ days off per week to explore their new surroundings and make lifelong friends

Required qualifications:

  • You are between 18 and 26 years old
  • You are proficient in the English language
  • You have graduated from a secondary school (or equivalent)
  • You have acquired sufficient experience in childcare
  • You are prepared to adjust to your host family’s daily life
  • You know how to do daily housework
  • You would like to stay in the United States as an au pair for 10 to 12 months

This program includes (Standard program)

  • Full board and accommodation with the host family
  • Pick-up from the airport by the host family
  • A work schedule of no more than 45 hours a week (no more than 10 hours a day)                                      
    • the au pair will need to do light housework in pertaining to the host family’s children (i.e. washing their bedding and clothes, preparing the children’s meals etc.)
    • 1 ½ days off per week, one weekend off per month
  • Two weeks paid vacation off during the year
  • One month off at the end of the year (to travel and explore the United States on her/his own)
  • A gift of $500 from the host family to use towards mandatory post-secondary classes at a local university or community college
    • The au pair must complete 6 credits at an accredited school in order to keep their J1 visa permit
    • The au pair is responsible for paying any remainder of the cost themselves (if it costs more than $500)
    • The 6 credits must be completed the au pair’s personal time, since her/his main purpose is to take care of the host family’s children
  • Weekly pocket money of $178.00 a week
  • health insurance

For a complete application we need the following documents (in the English language):

  • The application form
  • A copy of your passport
  • 2 recent passport pictures
  • A recent medical certificate (that states you are in good health)
  • A birth certificate (with a certified English translation)
  • A copy of a secondary school diploma (with a certified translation in English)
  • A copy of your driver’s license
  • A criminal record check certificate
  • An English language evaluation certificate
  • 2 childcare references from families that you have worked for
  • Documented evidence that you have over 200 hours of caring for children under two years old (if your host family needs you to take care of children who are under two yrs. old)
  • 3 verifiable character references from a former employer, teacher, pastor etc...
  • A small photo album with family, friends, and children that you have taken care of
A “Dear host family” letter in English (explaining your family background, your experience with children, your motivation for the au pair program, your personality etc…)

Au pairs must also meet the following requirements:

  • Complete a psychometric test
    • An aptitude test and personality profile   
  • Complete a personal interview with one of our team members
  • Sign an Au Pair Agreement certifying that all of your information is correct

Our other Au pair programs:

Educare:

  • The au pair receives a weekly income of $104.29
  • The au pair will work no more than 30 hours per week (no more than 10 hours a day)
  • The children will probably be preschool aged, and will most likely be in school for part of the day
  • The au pair will be gifted up to $1,000 to use towards completing 12 credits of education

Summer:

  • The au pair receives a weekly income of $139.05
  • The au pair will receive 4 paid days of vacation
  • This program runs from May 15- September 15
  • The au pair will be gifted up to $250 to use towards completing 3 credits of education

Plus:

  • The au pair receives a weekly income of $170
  • The au pair must have previously been a nanny or an au pair (in another country), for at least 1 year

Premiere:

  • The au pair receives a weekly income of $200
  • The au pair must be 20 years old (or older)
  • This program requires the au pair to have had a driver’s license for 1 year already
  • The au pair must have +200 hours of childcare experience (with children under 2 years old)
  • The au pair must have had +2 years of consecutive, full time childcare experience (or a degree in childcare)
